Patagonia · Terravia Pack 28L
Terravia Pack 28L: the Patagonia hiking backpack that leaves at dawn, and sleeps at the hut if the day runs long.
The Terravia Pack 28L is a 28-litre Patagonia hiking backpack for a day out, or a little more when the trail ends with a night away. It weighs 726 g, holds the pack off your back, carries a hip belt with pockets and hides a rain cover in its base.
Hiking · Night in a hut · Trekking poles
Off at dawn, at the hut by evening, the rain cover in the base.

On your back
A suspended back, a hip belt that takes the load.
- Suspended backBreathable mesh over a raised panel and under the shoulder straps: air moves between your back and the pack.
- Hip belt with pocketsIt spreads the weight; its two pockets keep the small things within easy reach.
- No frameA soft back that hugs your body, made for the load of a long day, water and picnic included. Loaded for several nights, the 36L has a frame.

Will it fit?
41 to 48 cm
size M, the only size sold at Eiken
The back length isn't adjustable: the Terravia Pack comes in S, M and L, and Eiken sells size M. With a shorter or longer back, the hip belt sits below your hips or rides up onto your stomach.
A fixed back, cut in M: measure yours.
Measure your back from your C7 vertebra (the bony bump at the base of your neck) down your spine to the top of your hip bones, and compare with the length shown.
Too short or too long? You have 30 days to send it back.

In the rain
Proper rain, as long as you get the cover out.
Light rain
Water-repellent fabric
PU coating and a durable water repellent (DWR) finish: water beads up, then eventually gets through at the seams and zips.
Shower
Laminated fabric
Fabric covered with a TPU film (a flexible plastic) that stands up to the weather. The seams aren't taped.
Proper rain
Rain cover
A removable cover goes over the whole bag. Without it, the coated fabric eventually lets water through.
This bag
It's included: remember to get it out before the shower, because packed away in its pocket it protects nothing.

Eiken's take
- Why we chose it
- 726 g for 28 litres, a hip belt with pockets and a rain cover included: the kit of a heavier pack, without the weight.
- Worth knowing
- With no frame, it's made for a day's load: packed for several nights, it carries less well than the Terravia 36L, which has one.
- Who it's for
- Hikers who do long days and now and then sleep in a hut, where a bed and a meal are waiting.

Questions
What are the dimensions and weight of the Terravia 28L?
58 × 28 × 20 cm for 726 g, in size M.
Is the Terravia 28L waterproof?
With its rain cover, included and stowed underneath, it handles proper rain. Without it, the coated fabric lets water through in the end; it still isn't waterproof.
Does it have a frame?
No: a soft back, made for a day's load. To carry heavier for several days, the Terravia Pack 36L has a foam frame sheet with a steel rim.
Can I put a laptop in it?
No: it has no laptop pocket, and the sleeve against your back is made for a hydration reservoir. For the office and the trail, the Refugio Daypack 26L has a 15-inch laptop sleeve.
