Terravia Pack 22L: the Patagonia hiking backpack for a full day, from the car park to the pass and back before dark.
The Terravia Pack 22L is a 22-litre Patagonia hiking backpack for a day on foot. It weighs 672 g, holds the pack off your back, carries a hip belt with pockets and a big zipped pocket on the front, and keeps a rain cover stowed in its base.
Day hike · Walking · Trekking poles
The map in the front pocket, the snack in the hip belt.

On your back
A breathable back, the weight on your hips.
- Suspended backBreathable mesh over a raised panel and under the shoulder straps: air moves between your back and the pack.
- Hip belt with pocketsIt spreads the weight; its two pockets keep the small things within easy reach.
- No frameA soft, light back that sits close to your body, made for a day's load. To carry heavy for several days, the 36L has a frame.

Will it fit?
41 to 48 cm
size M, the only size sold at Eiken
The back length isn't adjustable: the Terravia Pack comes in S, M and L, and Eiken sells size M. With a shorter or longer back, the hip belt sits below your hips or rides up onto your stomach.
A fixed back, cut in M: measure yours.
Measure your back from your C7 vertebra (the bony bump at the base of your neck) down your spine to the top of your hip bones, and compare with the length shown.
Too short or too long? You have 30 days to send it back.

In the rain
A shower on the way: the cover comes out from under the pack.
Light rain
Water-repellent fabric
PU coating and a durable water repellent (DWR) finish: water beads up, then eventually gets through at the seams and zips.
Shower
Laminated fabric
Fabric covered with a TPU film (a flexible plastic) that stands up to the weather. The seams aren't taped.
Proper rain
Rain cover
A removable cover goes over the whole bag. Without it, the coated fabric eventually lets water through.
This bag
Get the cover out before the shower hits: packed away in its pocket, it protects nothing.

Eiken's take
- Why we chose it
- Room for the picnic and a warm layer, a hip belt with pockets and the rain cover already in the base: the right size for a day on foot.
- Worth knowing
- 22 litres and no frame: a day pack. For a night in a hut, the 28L; for two nights, the 36L, the only one in the range with a frame.
- Who it's for
- Anyone who walks from morning to evening and wants their map, snack and jacket without taking the pack off.

Questions
What are the dimensions and weight of the Terravia 22L?
50 × 28 × 17 cm for 672 g, in size M.
Is the Terravia 22L waterproof?
With its rain cover, included and stowed underneath, it handles proper rain. Without it, the coated fabric lets water through in the end; it still isn't waterproof.
Does it carry well when loaded, without a frame?
For a day, yes: the suspended back and the hip belt spread the weight of a picnic, a warm layer and water. To carry heavy for several days, take the Terravia 36L, the only one in the range with a frame.
22L or 28L?
The 28L adds six litres, a big open front pocket with drainage holes, and a drawcord lid: enough to handle a night outdoors. The 22L is made for the day.
