The Black Hole Duffel 40L is a 40-litre Patagonia duffel bag, designed as a cabin bag for most airlines and trains. On Friday evening it goes on your back to the platform, up onto the luggage rack, and comes home on Sunday without ever going near the baggage carousel. Same 900-denier fabric as the big Black Hole duffels.

This size is designed as a cabin bag for most airlines and trains. Soft-sided, it squashes into the locker; stuffed to bursting, it bulges.

  • 100% recycled polyester ripstop, laminated with a recycled TPU film (a flexible plastic) with a matt finish.
  • Padded base. It protects the contents when the bag is set down on hard ground or gravel.

On easyJet (56 × 45 × 25 cm) and Air France (55 × 35 × 25 cm), yes: 50 × 31.7 × 21.6 cm fits. On Ryanair (55 × 40 × 20 cm, Priority), its 21.6 cm depth is 1.6 cm over the limit: being soft, it squashes down if it isn't overstuffed. On low-cost airlines the cabin bag is often an extra; check with your airline.

Can the Duffel 40L be carried as a backpack, or over the shoulder?
