The Kapten & Son Aalborg is an 18-litre city backpack that opens from the back, like a suitcase.

The two-slider zip runs round the top and down both sides: fold the back down and the padded laptop sleeve, the inner pocket and everything you packed are in view. The front pocket opens all the way too, for the charger and cables, and the bottle goes in the side pocket. 42 × 29 × 15 cm, 0.8 kg, water-repellent, vegan.

Does my laptop fit?

Kapten & Son rates the Aalborg for a 15.6-inch PC or a 16-inch MacBook, in a padded sleeve of 35.5 × 25 × 2.5 cm: a snug fit for those two. A MacBook Air 13 or 15 and a MacBook Pro 14 fit with room to spare. A thick PC, over 2.5 cm, won't go in.

Does a ring binder fit?

Kapten & Son says it does. At 29 cm wide on the outside, an A4 lever-arch file is a close fit: a thinner binder goes in more easily.

Is it rainproof?

The fabric and the main zip are water-repellent: rain beads off. It isn't made to be submerged.

Can it go in the cabin?

At 42 × 29 × 15 cm it fits the usual cabin allowances, and the 45 × 36 × 20 cm under-seat ones. For a 40 × 30 × 20 cm under-seat bag, it is 2 cm too tall.

Care

Lukewarm water and mild soap on a cotton cloth, then let it air-dry. Never in the washing machine, never with chemical cleaners.
